Stainless strapping tensioner, outdoor

The one tool that decides what stays standing

A gear-driven tensioner for stainless steel strapping, with the cutter built into the same hand. Loop the band around a prop's post and a fence post, a stake, or a porch column, crank the black handle until it stops arguing, and snip the tail with the chrome lever. It lives at the base of whatever on the front lawn used to fall over.

Cut without reaching for a second tool

The bent chrome lever on top is the cutter. Pull the band tight, fold the lever over, and the tail comes off right there, so you are not kneeling in wet mulch after dark hunting for the tin snips.

Sized on the post, not at the store

It does the job of a hose clamp or a cable tie, only in stainless steel and at whatever size the post turns out to be. No guessing a diameter in the aisle; the band goes around, the tool takes up the slack.

Handles you can find in the dark

Both handles wear black grip sleeves, so it's the one thing you can find by feel at the bottom of a dark tote, and the blue paint on the body means it doesn't disappear in the grass either. The pin on the side has a pull ring, which is the kind of detail you appreciate with cold hands.

On the night, you won't think about it

Halloween night is wind, kids cutting across the lawn, and a stroller clipping the skeleton's shin. The band holds, the prop is where it was at dusk, and you never get up from the porch. November first, snip the strap, toss the offcut, and the tool goes back in the tote next to the galvanized hardware for next year. Ships in 5 to 7 business days, 3 to 4 on express.
