  • Holds through a 25 mph gust in loose soil; a straight spike pulls out at about 12
  • 50 feet of coated steel cable with four ratchet tensioners
  • Eight prop clips that grip a 1-inch tube without cutting the shroud
  • Everything is galvanized, so it goes back in the tote instead of in the trash

Wind-tested to 25 mph, galvanized

Twelve screw-in stakes, 50 feet of cable, and no mallet required

This is the anchoring kit, not the prop. Twelve galvanized helical stakes, a coil of coated steel cable, tensioners and clips, all meant for the things that live on the front lawn. You twist the stakes into the sod, run the cable through the rings at the top, and the prop you spent real money on stops leaning every time the wind picks up.

Closed rings, not open hooks

Every stake tops out in a closed ring, so the cable runs through it and gets clamped instead of resting on top. Once it is through the ring, a gust can shake the line, but it has nowhere to slip off.

Ten minutes, and the ring is the handle

Figure ten minutes to set all twelve. The ring on top gives you something to grab and turn, the auger thread does the rest, and you are done before the coffee goes cold. No mallet, and nothing punched through the sod.

Under ten pounds for the whole kit

Stakes, cable, tensioners and clips together come in at 9.8 pounds, which is one trip from the garage, not three. If you are building the lawn from scratch, the same kit sits inside The Ground Crew and Graveyard Starter bundles.

What it looks like on the 31st

Nobody at the door will notice it, which is the point. The reaper stays where you put him, the kids walk past a cable they don't notice, and you are not out there at nine with a flashlight and a spare spike. After, the stakes twist back out, the cable coils, and the set goes in the tote for next year. Ships from a US warehouse in 5 to 7 days, 3 to 4 express.

Buy this before anything tall

I lost a skeleton to one storm last year. Nothing anchored with these has moved an inch since.

The unsexy essential

Nobody sees it. Everything stands because of it. The drive handle alone is worth it in packed soil.
